Ona was born on 2 August 1931 and married to Chester. The couple is a first-generation immigrant who settled in New York.

De Sousa was a proud mother of five children, four daughters and one son. Her second child, daughter Melissa, is a famous actress in Hollywood.

Melissa wished her mother on the occasion of Mother's Day on 10 May 2020 via her Instagram. Posting a photo of her mother, she expressed deep gratitude for being with her mother during the difficult time of quarantine. 

The actress dedicated her life to improving her children's future and provided them with all the love and support. The proud mother lived a long life.

On 8 April 2022, Ona bid her last farewell to her family at the age of 90. The James Funeral Home from Massapequa, New York, made the funeral arrangements on 16 April 2022.
