Personal Statement

Hi, my name is AJ Pedro, and I am a student athlete at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. Ever since I began in the sport of wrestling in 5th grade, I have aspired to be an NCAA Division 1 National Champion, while receiving a degree from a prestigious academic university. I currently live in Methuen, Massachusetts and the school in which I attend is co-ed boarding. Due to this factor, the boarding experience has taught me many things about myself that has helped me to grow as a student, wrestler, and most importantly a person. Coming from a state that is not well known for a sport like wrestling, I have been put at an obvious disadvantage to some of my competition who live in states with all of the necessary resources to develop and compete at the highest level. (ie. training partners, level of local competition, clinicians/coaches, etc.) That being said, I have taken it upon myself to travel all around the country to seek out the best training camps and competitions possible, whether it be Miron Kharchilava's camp in Ohio or Super 32 Nationals in North Carolina. I am always looking to better myself in all aspects of my life, and if there is one thing I can gurantee to any coach that is looking to recruit me, it is that I always give 100% of myself in everything I do. I believe that being a leader and living by example is just as important as succeeding, and one thing I can say about myself is I always do what I believe is right even if it may not be the popular choice by my friends or peers. This applies to situations involving social media and other public portrayals of myself, in which I take the utmost care in only putting things on that would not ve deteimental to the image I want viewers to get of me. I am extremely passionate about both wrestling and my academic endeavors, and I am looking forward to taking such pursuits to the next level at a school that I will call home for the four years of my college career.
