About Andrea Serber

It is my belief that everyone has suffered from a mood disturbance at one time in their life. Not every mood disturbance is a diagnosable psychiatric disorder. More often, we are dealing with issues in our lives that are directly affecting our mood and ability to function. What makes for different diagnosis is the intensity of the mood change and the duration. I believe we fuel our moods, whether positively or negatively, by our choices and decisions, our thoughts, our beliefs, unhealthy habits and coping skills. My style is extremely interactive and direct, insuring results early on in the treatment process. I use a cognitive approach which is interactive and educational. My belief is that one must know about themselves and how their environment, relationships, and personality fuel their overall functioning, so change can occur. My patients also know that my style is interactive, direct, and REAL. I believe people are tired of the traditional therapies which can feel like venting sessions with no immediate course for change. If you are desiring something other than the traditional quite therapist sitting with her pad asking you …” How does that make you feel”, then my approach is for you!

It is my very diverse personal and professional background that makes me equipped to relate on many different levels. I pride myself in having past experiences which have led to my unique therapeutic style. I know that when I am dealing with any issue in my life, I like to talk with someone who has had a similar experience. It has been proven that in some therapies, as in addiction therapies, the therapist is often a recovering addict. Why isn’t the case with all therapies? Though, it is impossible to have a therapist who has had every identical issue in life, I believe that when looking for a therapist this should be a consideration. I am a woman, a woman who started life as a very young mother, who made poor choices, who had past issues in life affect current relationships, who had self esteem issues, who became a young widow, who found herself having to date mid-life, who was a single mother….and without sounding as though my life was a host of problems, I learned from each experience and achieved personal and professional successes. It’s these events in my life with my education which allow me to relate and help other women through life’s issues. You’ll rarely hear me say, “That must be hard” or “I can imagine”. Most likely, my experiences in life, personal and professional, will allow me to assist you with firsthand knowledge.

I look forward to helping you through whatever issue is not satisfactory to you. There will never be any judgment or discomfort on my part. We as women should help each other and I am here to help you!
