Laporte Appeared to Suffer Serious Injury
Thursday, March 24
The centre-back had to leave the field on a stretcher with his leg in a brace after tangling legs with Liam Henderson and collapsing in the box.
Replays showed that Laporte's right foot seemed to catch the ground as he fell, twisting his leg and knee. The exact nature of the injury remains unknown, but it appeared to be a painful fall for the defender.
Laporte, 21, has been excellent for Athletic Bilbao this season, notching three goals, an assist and a 6.93 average match rating from WhoScored.com in La Liga play.
He's one of the brightest young talents at centre-back in the world, and reports have continued to link him with a summer move to Manchester City as one of Pep Guardiola's first additions when he takes over as the club's new manager, per Pete Oliver of the Telegraph.
In the short term, however, Laporte's injury will be a huge blow to Athletic Bilbao if he misses significant time as the team fights for a place in the Europa League next season.
