In “Breathless”, the singers address a yearning desire to experience an overwhelming emotion from their love interest. In literal terms, asking someone to cease your breath may leave you dead, but here the singer beckons their partner to leave them out of breath. This signifies how they want to yield to them and be overtaken by their love.

The verses capture the state of the Speaker as she reveals that whenever she is with her lover, time stands still and she feels weak at the slightest touch. The narrator continues to portray a lot of vulnerability as she admits that she cannot hide her true feelings from this person. Apparently, she is not really concerned about the future. Once she is with her lover, she is more than satisfied. Like she reveals in the second pre-chorus, she doesn’t want to experience reality if her interactions with her lover are all but dreams. Luckily for the singer, her love interest is around. Hence her plea for her to tease, tempt and do whatever he wishes to her, until she can’t breathe.

Summary: “Breathless” expresses the narrator’s expectation to be dazzled by the attention and love from their significant other.
