LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska landed a sixth commitment from its most recent group of official visitors Thursday as Donovan Jones, a defensive back out of Omaha North, accepted an offer from the Huskers. He’s the 15th pledge in the Class of 2024 for Nebraska. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Jones, 6 feet, 1 inches and 185 pounds, earned an offer from Nebraska after his performance last week at the school’s Friday Night Lights camp. He ran a 4.52-second 40-yard dash at the event, which concluded the camp season in Lincoln.
  • He’s at least the fifth defensive back in the Huskers’ Class of 2024, joining Mario Buford of DeSoto, Texas; Callen Barta of Topeka, Kan.; Evan Taylor of Waxhaw, N.C.; and Roger Gradney of Garwood, Texas. Braylen Prude of Pearland, Texas, could begin his career in the secondary, although he projects well also at linebacker.
  • Jones’ high school teammate, three-star defensive lineman Tyson Terry, committed to the Huskers in the Class of 2025 this month. Other prospects from the state of Nebraska in the older class include quarterback Daniel Kaelin of Bellevue West and Ashton Murphy of Elkhorn South. Jones is unranked by the 247Sports Composite.

What does Jones’ commitment mean for Nebraska?

It extends momentum close to home for the Huskers ahead of a huge recruiting weekend in Lincoln. The top-four rated prospects are scheduled to see the campus, starting Friday. Kaelin is already pledged to Nebraska, but tight end Carter Nelson Ainsworth and receivers Dae’vonn Hall and Isaiah McMorris of Bellevue West are undecided ahead of their trips.

Hall and McMorris announced Thursday that they would reveal their choices Friday morning.

Nebraska lost an in-state prospect Thursday in Omaha Creighton Prep tight end Michael Burt, who committed to Iowa.
