Deborah Higgins Murder Suicide Case: Who Killed Her?

Deborah Higgins death has been a murder-suicide case for the local police.

On Christmas Eve, Deborah and Bruce were having a tasty dinner with their relatives at Deborah’s brother’s house. 

Deborah’s brother, Darrell Russ, said, “They seemed happy to me.” However, as soon as the sun rose in the sky, Deborah and Bruce were dead. 

Montgomery County police said they received a call at 8 AM on Wednesday to arrive at the couple’s home located at the 28900 block of Kemptown Road.

A few minutes before police received a call, a relative made a call to 911 and informed the operator that Bruce had called and said he shot his wife and now he was going to shoot himself. 

When the police arrived at the incident area, they tried contacting the couple, but they received no response.

When they entered the house, they found the couple’s dead bodies. 

Bruce, 84, and Deborah, 54, were dead from the gunshot wounds.

The couple’s family had a hard time understanding what could have been the reason for this between them. 

Although the couple had around 30 year of age gap, they loved each other.

Russ said his sister loved her husband, while Bruce loved her sister too. 

Deborah advertised Valhalla Manor, a 50-acre wedding venue, and also their palatial home near Clarksburg Road. 

According to the venue’s website, “The countryside estate is capable of accommodating the most intimate gatherings to elegant receptions.”

Deborah’s brother, Russ, said that his sister didn’t have a smooth life.

Lance Cpl. James W. Higgins Jr., her son, passed away from fighting in Iraq in 2006. 

Higgins’s brother, Joseph Higgins, said he was happy when he heard that his brother, James, was being sent to Iraq as that was what James always wanted to do. 

Deborah’s life had more hurdles ahead.

She was sued multiple times by different companies because she was unable to pay the bills.

In 2015, she filed for numerous bankruptcies. 

As per the local authorities, the incident is called a domestic-related homicide, and the police are still working on investigating the cause of the incident. 

Russ shared a statement in which he said, “I didn’t see this coming. I don’t care what happened between them — you don’t kill somebody.“
