Dorothy Farrow French, 84, of Chesapeake, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on November 5, 2019. Lovingly called “Dot” by most who knew her, she was born Dorothy Marie Gentry in Lynchburg, Virginia on August 3, 1935, the daughter of Mabel Mosby and James Gentry. Dot attended the Lynchburg Public Schools and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1953.

Dot could tell a tall tale and loved being the life of the party, including participating in line dancing and doing the happy dance whenever she made a bowling strike. She loved her family and especially the youngsters to whom she was always a second mother. One of the many jobs on her earthly journey was teaching at her church’s Kiddie Kollege in the 1980s.

Dot was a woman of many talents who used her skills to the fullest as a businesswoman in the home interior and decorating field. She loved to cook, especially healthy foods, and was known to her email and Facebook friends as “dhealthy1”.

Dot was united in holy matrimony to her soulmate, the late Clifford French, with whom she shared over 30 years of wedded bliss. The two were founding and loyal members of New Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church of Chesapeake where they both worked faithfully as their health allowed.

Dot and “Frenchie” loved to travel by land, sea and air and after their retirement enjoyed many trips around the country and internationally. After his death, Dot continued to travel, with her favorite destination being San Diego, California.

Dorothy Farrow Dunmore French leaves behind to cherish her loving memory one son, Kenneth Dunmore (Brenda Pressler) of San Diego, CA; one daughter, Wanda Farrow Camm of Chesapeake, VA; one sister, Brenda Hughes Andrews of Norfolk, VA; one grandson, Naamdi Camm of Chesapeake, VA; one granddaughter, Aiyana Dunmore of Birmingham, AL; two great-granddaughters, Nadira Camm of Cameron, NC and Naiema Camm of Newport News, VA; one nephew, Oronde K.
