When “First Girlfriend” was dropped on 23 November 2019, Tydus Talbott, who is 8 years old as of this writing, was only 5 back then. He has been YouTube active practically his whole life, co-starring on his parents’ channel, “Trav and Cor”, which was founded in 2016 and currently boasts about 6.3 million followers.

Tydus, in his own right, has proven popular in part due to being likened to Jake Paul, who by far is one of the most-successful YouTubers even with, to note, a brief musical history of his own.

In fact Paul is credited as a co-writer of this song alongside Chad Future and Tydus’s dad, Travis Talbott.

Meanwhile, the producer of “First Girlfriend” is Darren Smith, a behind-the-scenes’ musician who is apparently entrenched in the K-pop scene. So to note, even though this track is being presented by a child, it was composed entirely by adults.

Lyrics of “First Girlfriend”

The above is important to point out because this song, which has been classified under the pop-rap genre, does read sorta like one of those hip-hop based tracks Jake would’ve dropped back in the day, highlighted by straightforward, uncomplicated lyricism.

The presumption is that in this case, the writers also made a conscientious effort to tone down the wording even more, making them applicable to a five year old. But whether or not they achieved that goal is a matter of debate, since for instance children aren’t particularly known to develop a wealth-based braggadocious attitude by the tender age of five.

In other words, it appears that lil’ Tydus is more or less trying to impress the apple of his eye with the likes of his “Gucci” pajamas, “brand-new” Jordans and even a “mini Lamborghini”. In other words, the vocalist proceeds to utilize the same type of romantic tactics that guys even 10 times his age are known to employ.

But as implied by the title, this is because he is indeed smitten. That is to say that the addressee is the girl that Tydus has come to fancy.  And his intent, in delineating his wealth, is to let her know that she will be the recipient of “all (his) love”, Lamborghini included, if the addressee does accept being his “first girlfriend”.

“Hey, will you be my first girlfriend?
(Be, be, be my first girlfriend?)
Hey, will you be my first girlfriend?
(Be, be, be my first girlfriend?)
Take you to the movies, take you to the mall
Going out to dinner, you can have it all
Rollin’ VIP, anythin’ for free
Spend a couple Gs, you’re the only ten I see”
