I have known Cort since I was a teenager since I was best friends with his daughter Desi. He was like a father to me back then and when I came to work at LPSO he was even more of a father figure for me there. He was missed so much when he retired but always popped up when times were tough for our agency. Last time I saw him and gave him a hug was for Nick’s funeral he was standing behind me in line entering the church. He was always great about bringing peace at difficult times. He was such an amazing, strong, and caring person and will be missed by all!! Love you Baron Cortopassi 😘❤️

According to an official statement released by the Sheriff’s Office, Lt. Cortopassi succumbed to a brief illness. Reports indicate that he had been admitted to the hospital a few weeks prior due to an undisclosed health issue, which unfortunately led to his passing.

A few weeks ago I spoke with Christine Cortopassi in concern of her husband Baron Cortopassi being hospitalized. Both of these fine people were co-workers and friends of mine for years at Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office. Never a dull moment when Cort was around. He took his job serious, but never to serious. They would later move to Florida, where Baron continued his career in law enforcement. Unfortunately, I received a call today that Baron (better known as Cort) had passed away. One of the last times I saw Cort in person, was right after Hurricane Ida. A police cruiser from Florida pulled up at my house and it was Cort, checking on my family and I. Just the kind of person he was. Always checking on his fellow man. Rest in Peace Cort, you will be missed by many, as you have touched so many lives both near and far. Praying for Christine and family as they go through this difficult time.

Our deepest condolences go out to Cortopassi’s family, friends, and fellow officers during this challenging time. May his legacy continue to shine brightly in the realm of law enforcement, inspiring future generations to serve with unwavering dedication and compassion.
