Gladys Robinson McElmore, beloved by many, departed her earthly life and went home to be with her heavenly father on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.
Born on April 27, 1946, in Essex County, Virginia, Gladys was born to the late Warner and Josephine Robinson. After graduating from Essex County High School in Tappahannock, Virginia, she completed undergraduate and graduate studies at Norfolk State University where she pursued her degree in Elementary Education. Gladys retired from Norfolk Public Schools after 33 years of dedication to training and educating numerous generations. During her tenure, she was awarded Teacher of the Year twice.
Mrs. McElmore loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing the word with everyone. She was associated with several congregations, most recently Second Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia where she was very active in ministry. She taught Sunday School, served as the Cradle Roll Superintendent as well as facilitated several outreach activities in the community such as Bible Studies, food drives, social groups, and fundraising events to donate back to her community. Gladys wrote several Christian books and was a dedicated journalist for the New Journal and Guide for 12 years.
Gladys married the love of her life, Abraham McElmore in 1985 and they were married until Abraham was called home to be with the Lord in 2010. Gladys leaves to cherish her memories: her beloved son, James (Stephanie) and two grandsons Warren (Owens) and Logan; her brother Warner Robinson and a host of cousins and friends.
