Personal Statement

My name is Ian Garcia, and I am currently in the following sports for Cheyenne East High, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track. I missed the 2020 Football season as I lived with my dad during those months. However, I am also part of the Baby Case Youth City League and will be trying out for the City League Babe Ruth competitive team. I did play baseball in Texas during spring of 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down.

I am in Junior of of High School which has taught me to not only step up my game in track but aslo on the baseball field. My sophomore year has been pretty great but I set goals freshman year such as working hard to work my way up to start JV football and continue working on improving my technique. After winning the Gildein championship my freshman year of football I had set higher goals. However, even though my freshman year went as plan it was a great learning experience and I accomplished a lot during my 2018 season. During the championship game I knew I needed to set higher goals for me and continue to keep the comrade within the team. During my (2018 season) of Track I ran in a sprint medley 400 and a 4*4 relay our goal was to place in those two events and we placed 5th in the sprint medley and 8th in our 4*4, and I had a goal of to place in a single event but that didn’t go as planned but that was ok. I went to state outdoor track and placed in team events and It was an accomplishment as I was the only freshman boy to compete with a majority of juniors and seniors. My PR during the track season, the 100 was a 11:58 and the 200 23.77 and the 400 was a 54.85. I also wanted to break the 200 and I did that as well with a PR of 23. I was able to Letter in track because I was able to participate in team running events at State. In 2021 my indoor Sprint Medley Relay team broke the Cheyenne East High record by almost eight seconds overall, our time was 3:44 breaking the time from the week before by five seconds. This is by far a big accomplishment for my teammates and I.  Our East High 4x2 relay team went on to place fifth with a time of 1:36.

My football, baseball,  and track skills, our school also offers us cheerleading  inbetween track/field. I have found that as a freshman that my skills have translated well into my football, baseball and track career. I attended Black Hill state for a football camp freshman year with our football team and worked on my skills and take constructive criticism to continue to improve my football skills.

In addition to football and track, I am a varsity cheerleader at my high school. I like to joke that I'm only on the squad because they need more boys and I am the only one as I know right now. Being the only boy is certainly a strength, but I am learning to come out of my shell a bit more with the actual cheering and working with various types of individuals and personalities to grow as an athlete.

I have played competitive baseball since I was 10 years old. I competed one season with the Cheyenne Stars and one season with the Cheyenne Wyco Academy and one season with the Cheyenne Mustangs, which is the elite boy's travel boy club in Cheyenne. I was a catcher, Short stop second basemen third basemen and an outfield and I also was a pitcher for this team. But now I play for our city team our team name is called the Babycakes but I also still play the same position but I mostly play short stop and pitcher but I will play any position to help the team out.

After high school, I will attend college and focus on either business or sport medicine. I have the drive and the academic performance to reach my goals. I would love to play baseball or run track at the collegiate level.

I hope to visit with some of you soon.
