Personal Statement
My mom says I'm a bit of a dark horse. When I asked her what she meant, she said, "Most people know you love basketball and know you as a pretty good player, right? Well, they don't see just how much time you have been spending working to improve your game...but they are seeing a difference in how well you play, and to them, it's like you've come out of nowhere."
My mom's right. I have been working hard because I realized that I was not going to get better as a player unless I really committed to improving my game. My parents helped me find a personal basketball coach last spring who worked with me to get my shot off quicker, be more assertive with driving and finishing at the hoop, and be even more aggressive defensively.
Prior to this season's tryouts, I participated in Eagan High School's "Eagan Trained" strength training program four days per week in addition to a skills and drills program two days per week led by Reid Ouse of Catalyst training. I continue to work hard on and off the court to improve my game so that I can be the best player that I can be for my team.
Here are my stats as of 2/24/2020:
- Total Games Played to date: 24
Season High Points/Game: 15- Total: 180/ Average: 8.2
Season High Rebounds/Game: 7- Total: 65 / Average: 3.0
Season High Assists/Game: 9- Total: 55 / Average: 2.5
Season High Steals/Game: 6- Total: 46 / Average: 2.1
I graduate in 2023 and I know that four years from now will be here before I know it. I also know that being a "dark horse" fills me with motivation to do more because I want to be more. For me, being more is competing at the highest level possible so that I have a shot at being a shooting guard for a great basketball program while earning a solid education at the same time.
Let's stay in touch. Be sure to follow me on NCSA and Twitter (@jackmadden2023) so that you can continue to follow my basketball journey.
Sincerely,
Jack Madden
