The Cavaliers announced the news on Wednesday.

“We’re very happy to have James back with the Cavaliers,” said Cavs G.M. David Griffin via NBA.com. He added:

He is a Champion in every sense of the word and his leadership and professionalism over the last two years have translated with our team in many different ways that have helped us reach our goals. ‘Champ' delivers a clear reflection of what success at the highest level should embody and his contributions and commitment to our team are something we need and appreciate greatly.

Shams Charania of The Vertical reported on Tuesday the contract is worth $1.55 million.

The 35-year-old Jones played sparingly for the Cavs last season, as he appeared in just 48 regular-season games and averaged 3.7 points in 9.6 minutes per contest.

He also averaged 0.5 points in 4.6 minutes per game in 12 playoff appearances en route to the Cavaliers winning their first NBA title.

Jones is a three-time NBA champion dating back to his time with the Miami Heat, and he is a well-known favorite of superstar LeBron James.

Although he doesn't play much, Jones brings a winning mentality to the locker room and is dangerous from long range when he is on the floor with a career three-point shooting percentage of 39.8.

The 2003 second-round pick of the Indiana Pacers out of Miami (Fla.) is likely nearing the end of his career, so continuing to serve as a mentor for one of the NBA's few championship-contending teams is the perfect role for him.

Jones has stockpiled rings during his career as a supporting-cast member, and since the Cavs enter 2016-17 as the clear favorites to reach the NBA Finals out of the Eastern Conference for the third consecutive year, he has a strong chance to add championship No. 4 to his resume.
