Jennifer Lopez is finally opening up about the snub heard around the world after the Academy Awards failed to recognize her with a nomination for her role in Hustlers.
During in interview with Oprah Winfrey on Saturday, she admitted feeling disappointed.
"I was a little sad because there was a lot of buildup to it," she said, according to Variety. There were so many articles. I got so many good notices — more than ever in my career — and there was a lot of ‘She’s going to get nominated for an Oscar. It’s going to happen; if she doesn’t, you’re crazy.’ I’m reading all the articles going, ‘Oh my god, could this happen?’ And then it didn’t and I was like, ‘Ouch.’ It was a little bit of a letdown.”
In the run-up leading to the Oscars, it was widely believed that her buzzed-about performance in Hustlers could garner the actress and singer her first-ever Oscar nomination. After all, she got nearly every other nomination, from a Golden Globe nod to a Film Independent Spirit Awards nomination.
And not only was Lopez herself feeling the letdown — she felt like she had disappointed everyone on her team.
"Most of my team has been with me for years — 20, 25 years — and I think they had a lot of hopes on that and they wanted it, too," she said. "So I felt like I let everyone down a little bit."
Honestly, the only people who should feel like they let anyone down was the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
