Jokowi: Indonesia-South Korea Relationship Is Strategic and Special

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi highlighted the Indonesia - South Korea relationship that is not only strategic but also special. He appreciated Seoul's commitment to the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem.
“Congratulations on the 50th anniversary of Indonesia and South Korea's amicable relations. A relationship that is not only strategic but also special because of the strong partnership between the two and their close friendship,” he said at the Korea-Indonesia Economic Cooperation Forum during the 50th-anniversary celebration of diplomatic relations at Hotel Mulia Senayan, Jakarta on Thursday, Nov. 30.
He also thanked the South Korean business community for investing in the archipelago. “In 2022, South Korea was ranked seventh among the countries with the largest amount of investment in Indonesia,” the President remarked.
He also said that both nations have committed to developing an EV ecosystem. “This is a very promising opportunity because Indonesia has abundant natural resources for EV batteries, a large market, and stable economic conditions, as well as social and political stability,” he added.
South Korean business players were expected to cooperate more with Indonesians. “To provide benefits for the welfare of the people of both countries,” Jokowi said.
During the same event, South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Lee Sang-deok called for enhanced cooperation between the two countries. “Let's prepare a strategy for shared prosperity in the future based on the mutual trust that we have built over the past 50 years,” Lee said.
He also highlighted the potential of combining the popular Korean Wave (K-Wave) with the Indonesian Wave (I-Wave) will generate great waves for the two nations's future. “I look forward to contributing to its realization,” Lee said before President Jokowi.
