Judge Dorow Jennifer tells the Jury that she rests the case. Dorow Jennifer is the judge for the Waukesha County court. On Wednesday, she found Darrell Brooks guilty of 76 charges.
Six counts include first-degree intentional homicide and 61 counts he was charged for recklessly endangering safety parameters.
Six counts were charged on him for hit-and-run that caused death, two counts of felony bail jumping, and the last one count of battery.
Darrell Brooks is a 40-year-old citizen of Waukesha. On the Christmas parade that happened on Nov. 21, 2021, he was arrested for rash driving, causing six deaths and 61 injuries.
After being taken to court, 12-sitting juries were appointed for the hearings. Darrell didn’t appoint any lawyer instead, he represented himself.
During the trial, one of the victim’s family members stood and yelled at Darrel. The person said, “Burn you piece of s*it.”
Judge Dorow Jennifer escorted Darrell from the court. It was reported that he was neither ticketed nor arrested.
As Darrell Brooks was representing himself, he kept persistent throughout the case that he didn’t commit the crime. In some hearings, he was shifted to another courtroom and had once appeared shirtless.
Darrell was always seen to ruin or disturb the decorum of the court. He was also seen challenging the judge and disrespectfully talking to her.
Reporter Hillary Mintz from WISN 12 News asked questions from District Attorney, “How do you begin to describe what it was like going up against Brooks, defending him, representing himself? Did that change your strategy?“
The Distinct Attorney said that “it changed our strategy.” Attorney added that if an appeal is put up in the courtroom, he can make a mistake. But the Attorney said that they were deeply offended because of Darrell’s behavior.
Attorney Opper said, “we felt very, very offended by his behavior, his disrespect of the court, the decorum, the families, his insulting the judge, his challenging the judge. That’s not the way our system is designed. That was intentional on his part.“
Opper also said that the children that were present during the incident could not be called to the court for the case as they cannot revisit the traumatizing. The children were also not called to court because the evidence against Darrel was authentic.
Opper added knowledge to Judge Dorow Jennifer that the case is clear because a videotape of the incident is present. They can rely on something other than eyewitnesses or re-imagining the incident.
In the end, all evidence proved in the court was against Darrell. He was convicted of 76 charges with six consecutive life-in-prison sentences, which would leave him in prison for 859 years.
Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson reported to a news channel that after convicting Darrell for many years had served justice. The trial started on Oct. 3 and was prolonged for three and half weeks until justice was served.
Six counts of intentional homicide were charged against him for killing the following victims:
- Virginia Sorenson
- Leanna Owen
- Tamara Durand
