Personal Statement
My name is Kenya Jones and I love the game of basketball. When I first began to play the sport in elementary school, I suffered with my weight. I was told I was too out of shape to play. Basketball seemed so fun and I thought it would be a great way to boost my confidence and put me on track to being a healthy person. In that case, I made a complete turn around and I now play varsity for my high school.
I was moved up at the ending of my freshman year to play varsity for the playoffs which is where I found my spot on the team. I feel as though when I step onto the court, I give a feeling of energy to my teammates; even if I'm not scoring majorly, I'm grabbing as many rebounds as I can or playing the best defense I can offer. Whether I'm in the post or on the perimeter, I can produce offense and draw contact very well. I've lost a significant amount of weight since the 7th grade and I plan on improving even more.
I love to reach out to others and give advice, and I always try to give encouragement to those around me. I try to set myself as an example inside and out of the classroom as well as in the community. School is very important to me -being a STUDENT athlete- and I always tell myself to aim to be the best at what I do. A few unique qualities about me are that I will always find room for improvement no matter how long the extra mile is, I will always be competitive about my studies and my game, and I will NEVER give up. My plans after high school are to go to college to obtain a degree in the Business field and double major in Communications. I would like to be a Sports Marketing Specialist with a minor in a foreign language.
