Born in Denver, Colorado, he grew up in a family of jazz musicians and started performing with his brothers and friends in a band called Blackwood Creek. He moved to New York to study composition with Edgar Grana and co-wrote a song for KIX in 1984, which marked the beginning of his career in the music industry.
In 1985, Kip Winger joined Alice Cooper’s band as a bassist and co-writer, and recorded and toured with him for two years. He then formed his own band, Winger, which released three successful albums in the late 80s before disbanding to pursue solo careers. As a solo artist, Kip Winger has released four albums and continued to study classical music, writing the score for Christopher Wheeldon’s ballet “Ghosts”.
