About Her Two Adopted Sons

Two of her children, Jackson and Mark, were adopted from an orphanage in Liberia, West Africa when they were 13 and 14 years old.

In 2003, Lysa Terkeurst was a speaker at an event in Charlotte, NC where a choir performed. She was impressed by the choir and also learned that her family wanted to adopt a couple of boys. Lysa and her husband Art made the decision to adopt Mark and Jackson after consulting with their three biological daughters.

Lysa's heartwarming story of adopting her two sons, Mark and Jackson, was so inspiring that it caught the attention of Oprah Winfrey, who featured the story on her show and called it one of her favorite stories. Several years later, the two brothers and their adoptive mother, Lysa, were featured on Oprah's show, "Where are they Now?".

During the show, Lysa revealed that both Jackson and Mark had graduated high school. Jackson went on to attend Union University, while Mark decided to work for his dad.

4. Mark Terkeurst

Mark is among the children whom Lysa adopted. Mark, who now performs under the stage name T Markus, is a musician who has released a number of singles that have received moderate acclaim.

He spent a significant portion of his childhood in a Liberian orphanage after losing his parents during a tumultuous civil war.

• Jackson served as the Operations and Human Resources Director at a Chick-fil-A franchise from June 2016 until January 2021.
• His first job was as an Assistant Manager at Walmart, which he held from May 2015 until June 2016.

In 2016, Jackson married Amanda. Interestingly, they both celebrate their birthdays during the same week.
