Personal Statement

Softball has taught me perseverance against adversity, love amongst chosen families, and a drive to achieve my goals regardless of others’ doubt. This is the beginning of my tenth competitive season, though I started learning the game I love when I was four. I’ve grown so much over the course of this journey, adapting from my first win in T-ball to taking second place at USA Northern Nationals in 2018. My first year of high school gave me the opportunity to lead when I swung down for JV games as well as learn from the talented upper classmen when I was on Varsity. Over the course of my sophomore year, I got to experience more of the student athlete life and its challenges, but also the feeling of pride when you overcome those challenges. I learn more about myself as a person every day that I am surrounded by others that are a part of the world I love.

I owe softball for the person that I am today, teaching me the values of hard work, determination, the importance of being a good teammate, and that nothing is impossible. I take these values with me everywhere I go, and carry them with me as I pursue schools that most consider out of reach. My academics are important to me, so I strive to push myself to constantly improve from the previous day in school as well as on the field. I will never accept mediocrity, and will never be satisfied because there are always ways to improve whether academically, athletically, or personally. When I go to college, I hope to continue to grow in all aspects possible, to become the best athlete, student, and person that I can be.
