Personal Statement

My name is Marissa Manzanares, and I am a senior at Alamosa High School. I am currently part of the Alamosa Girls Varsity Basketball team as well as the Shining Stars Club Basketball out of Golden, Colorado. I am 5'7" and  125 pounds.

Although, I would love to be taller I am physically toned because I dedicate time to building my body strength. I have played basketball for ten years, and have played different positions due to the levels of my team. However, at this time I play the two guard, but can also play point guard.

My freshmen season, I was a junior varsity player who benched varsity due to the fact that the coach at the time did not allow freshman to play on varsity. My sophomore season I was a starting varsity player. I have received 'Outstanding Freshmen Athlete of the Year" and "Honorable Mention All Conference", academically I have made honor roll every semester, and I am a member of the National Honor Society.

Basketball is my life; nevertheless, my school is also an important aspect to accomplishing future goals. I have received various awards for my academics as well as receiving the opportunity to go to many leadership conferences such as the 'Presidential Inaugural Conference".

I am a very focused individual; therefore, there are several goals and aspirations that I would like to achieve. It has always been my dream to take my basketball career as far as I can go. The idea of playing college basketball has always been a dream of mine and I clearly understand that with this goal comes a level of intensity, hard work, and sacrifice. In my lifetime, I have had strong mentors to model a strong work ethic and in turn they have shared with me that integrity is the foundation to achieving goals.  It is with this mind frame that I put forward hundred and ten percent and a little more to all that I do.  My favorite quote I live by is, "I may not be the most talented, but I will be the hardest worker”.
