Mark Coombs is a British businessman with a net worth of $2.3 billion. He is the founder of Ashmore Group, a fund management firm that invests in bonds, equities, and currencies in emerging economies, such as Latin America and Asia.
Coombs began his career at the Australia & New Zealand Banking Group after graduating from Cambridge Law School. In 1998, he became CEO of Ashmore Group and led a buyout in 1999. He took the firm public in 2006, raising $2 billion in the process.
In 2011, Coombs bought money manager Emerging Market Management for $246 million, and he more than doubled the company’s assets under management to $71 billion.
Despite his billionaire status, Coombs is known for living modestly. He resides in a three-bedroom house in Wimbledon, near London.
