NBA 3-Point Contest 2016: Winner, Score Results and Twitter Reaction | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

Last year, it was Stephen Curry. This year, Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson upended his fellow Splash Brother and Phoenix Suns rookie Devin Booker to win the 2016 Foot Locker Three-Point Contest on Saturday night.

After his MVP teammate made 23 points in his championship round, Thompson responded by making his last six money balls to take home the trophy with 27 points.

The event started, and ended, with Thompson putting on a show. He scored 22 points in the first round as the first participant, which led all shooters. Curry scored 21 in the first, while Booker won a tiebreaking shootout against Houston Rockets star James Harden and Los Angeles Clippers sharpshooter J.J. Redick to advance to the finals.

As it turns out, Thompson's win was for a good cause, per Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears:

Other than the shootout, there wasn't much excitement from the other participants. Milwaukee Bucks sharpshooter Khris Middleton had the lowest total with 13 points, which was only one more than comedian Kevin Hart scored in an impromptu shootout with Warriors All-Star Draymond Green earlier in the night.

Toronto Raptors All-Star guard Kyle Lowry, despite the hometown crowd's support, scored only 15 points. Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum was one behind Lowry with a score of 14 and an air ball to his credit.

In the end, the Splash Brothers dominated the show, and the final encounter lived up to the billing. Thompson needed nearly every shot to beat Curry, and he came up clutch. The only solution for next year is a rubber match. Curry seemed to be moments away from winning his second straight championship, but Thompson showed he's just as clutch as his MVP teammate.

Postgame Reaction

It's not often that Thompson will have a better day than Curry, but when he does, he knows how big of a deal it is.

"He's the best shooter I've ever seen, so this is a rare occurrence that he loses," Thompson said of Curry, per Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today. "So I'm just happy I caught him on an off night."

Curry couldn't help but marvel at his teammate's showcase as he made each shot on his final rack.

"The way that he finished off that second round was amazing," Curry said, per Zillgitt. "Trust me, the pressure of knowing what number he had to hit and making five out of five was fun to watch."

Thompson said it's fun to be able to work with Curry on a daily basis.

"Back-to-back years for Splash Brothers, it's pretty cool," Thompson said, per Zillgitt. "We love to shoot against each other. You know, I've never been on a team with someone who shoots it better than me, so it's a privilege to work with him every day. He makes me that much better."
