After missing an opportunity to move ahead of the Sacramento Kings for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference on Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers' odds of making it out of the play-in tournament and into the playoff field took a hit.

FanDuel Sportsbook currently has the Lakers at -250 (bet $250 to win $100) to miss the playoffs, as opposed to +198 to make the final postseason field.

The Lakers (45-35) were -118 to make the playoffs before their 134-120 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.

The Kings (45-34), who blew a 20-point first-half lead in Tuesday's 112-105 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, remain one game up on Los Angeles in the loss column for the No. 8 seed and the chance to get two play-in tournament games to advance.

The Lakers' loss to the Warriors came in a game they played without Anthony Davis. He was held out due to a headache and nausea.

Davis suffered a left eye injury when he was inadvertently hit in the face by Kyle Anderson in the first half of Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The nine-time All-Star previously suffered a corneal abrasion in the same eye in a game against the Warriors on March 16.

These back-to-back losses to Minnesota and Golden State have been extremely costly for the Lakers. If they had been able to win just one of them, they would be in the driver seat for the No. 8 seed and just one game behind the Phoenix Suns (46-33) in seventh.

Since the Kings won the regular-season series by sweeping all four head-to-head games between the two teams, the Lakers have to finish with a better record to leapfrog them in the standings.

It's not implausible that will happen because of the remaining schedule for both teams. The Lakers' final two games are on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday and New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday.

The Kings close the regular season with three home games against the Pelicans on Thursday, Suns on Friday and Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.

The Pelicans need to win one of their final three games to ensure they finish at least seventh. If they win out, they secure the No. 6 seed. If they win two of their final three games, the Suns would have to win out to leapfrog them to avoid the play-in tournament.

Another issue for the Lakers is they could also fall to 10th place and have to win two play-in tournament games on the road. They have the same number of losses as the Warriors (44-35), who still have three games left to play.

Golden State does have to finish with a better record to surpass the Lakers, who won the regular-season series 3-1.

The Warriors' remaining schedule includes a road game against the Blazers on Thursday before returning home to host the Pelicans on Friday and Utah Jazz on Sunday.

Since the NBA adopted the current play-in tournament format prior to the 2020-21 season, the No. 10 seed in either conference has failed to advance to the postseason.

The only 10 seeds that won their first play-in game were the Chicago Bulls and Oklahoma City Thunder last year. They lost the next game to determine the No. 8 seed in their respective conference by a combined total of 36 points.

Los Angeles' only previous appearance in the play-in tournament came last season. The Lakers overcame a 15-point third-quarter deficit in a 108-102 overtime victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves to earn the No. 7 seed en route to making a run to the Western Conference Finals.
