Samuel Irving S.I. Newhouse Jr. was an American heir to a magazine and media business. He was born on November 8, 1927, in New York City, U.S.
Together with his brother Donald, he owned Advance Publications which was founded by their late father in 1922.
Samuel attended the Horace Mann School in New York City. Later, he joined Syracuse University but dropped out and started working at his father's newspaper.
Newhouse worked in Paris for the International News Service. Before going to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to oversee two of his father's daily newspapers there he served two years in the U.S. Air Force. He became the publisher of the U.S. edition of Vogue in 1964.
In 1975 he acquire as chairman of Conde Nast. Likewise, in 1985 he brought the New Yorker.
He gave money to charity which include $15 million to Syracuse University in 1962. At the same time, he was also an art collector. By Art News, he was listed as among the top 200 art collectors in the world.
Donald Newhouse
Donald Edward Newhouse is an American billionaire and business tycoon. He possesses Advance Publications which was founded by his father Samuel Irving Newhouse Sr. in 1922.
The business tycoon was born in 1929 in New York City, U.S., and is Jewish. He was listed on the Jerusalem Post's list of the world's 50 richest Jews in 2010.
In January 2020, he donated $75 million to Syracuse University S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. The school is named after his father name Samuel Irving Newhouse Sr.
In March 2021 it was declared that Newhouse and his wife Susan would launch a fund at the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) with a $20m donation, the largest donation in the charity's history.
