The Green Bay Packers are reportedly bringing back AJ Dillon for the 2024 season.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Packers are planning to re-sign Dillon pending a physical.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that Dillon was targeting the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts as potential landing spots, but he ended up staying in a familiar situation.

The Packers made Dillon their second pick in the 2020 NFL draft at No. 62 overall. He drew some comparisons to Tennessee Titans star Derrick Henry leading up to the draft.

Green Bay's hope was to pair Dillon and Aaron Jones to create matchup problems in the backfield for opposing defenses. Jones was going to be the dynamic runner who could also catch passes out of the backfield. Dillon was the bruising runner who would wear defenses down, especially in late-game situations.

It never quite worked out that way, even though Jones and Dillon were productive together. Dillon had back-to-back seasons with more than 900 yards from scrimmage and seven total touchdowns in 2021 and 2022.

Jones established himself as the more versatile running back for the Packers. He averaged at least 4.6 yards per carry in each of his four seasons playing with Dillon.

Green Bay found an offensive formula that produced great results last season. Jordan Love's emergence as a budding superstar calmed any concerns about life after Aaron Rodgers.

Even though Jones missed time last season due to injuries and is approaching the age of 30, he was still incredibly important to the success of Green Bay's offense. He wound up being released at the start of the early negotiating period after the Packers agreed to a deal with Josh Jacobs.

Jones later agreed to a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings that gives him two chances to play against his former team next season.

Dillon, on the other hand, is being brought back to once again be a change-of-pace player behind Jacobs in 2024. The Packers are setting up their offense to be extremely versatile as they look to build off a terrific first season with Love as their starting quarterback.
