Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik is reportedly set for a second head coaching interview with the Atlanta Falcons.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Slowik will have an in-person interview with the Falcons on Thursday after having his second interview with the Washington Commanders on Tuesday.
The Falcons have already had a second interview with legendary former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, and ESPN's Michael Rothstein reported last week that they had a second interview lined up with University of Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh as well.
Other coaches who have interviewed with the Falcons include Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, Ravens assistant head coach Anthony Weaver, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.
Slowik, 36, is the son of longtime NFL defensive coordinator Bob Slowik, and he has spent a decade in the NFL coaching ranks.
Prior to joining the Texans as the OC under head coach DeMeco Ryans this past season, Slowik spent six years in San Francisco as a defensive quality control coach, offensive assistant, offensive pass game specialist and offensive passing game coordinator, learning under head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Ryans was the defensive coordinator in San Francisco from 2021 to 2022, and Ryans brought Slowik with him to Houston.
Slowik had a big job ahead of him in his first year as OC, as he had to coach up a rookie quarterback in No. 2 overall pick C.J. Stroud.
There is little doubt that Slowik passed the test with flying colors, as the 22-year-old Stroud went 9-6 as a starter and completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions, likely en route to NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
The Texans went 10-7 and won the AFC South just one year after going 3-13-1, and they also beat the Cleveland Browns 45-14 in the AFC Wild Card Round of the playoffs.
All of that has made Slowik one of the hottest head coaching candidates in the NFL, and it could lead to him landing a head coaching job after just one season as an offensive coordinator.
When it comes to the Falcons, Slowik is going up against some established and successful head coaches, such as Belichick, who won six Super Bowls as head coach of the Pats, and Harbaugh, who led Michigan to a national championship last season.
If the Falcons pass on Slowik in favor of more experience, the Commanders could be the ideal landing spot for him, as he was part of Washington's staff from 2011 to 2013 as a defensive assistant.
