The Seattle Seahawks fired head coach Pete Carroll earlier this week, and although he will remain with the franchise in an unspecified advisory role, it appears he is open to continuing his coaching career elsewhere.
"I don't know. I've got plenty of energy for it and thought and willingness but I can't imagine that there's a place that's the right one," Carroll said when asked if he will coach again per Maura Dooley of Seattle Sports. "I don't know. I'm open to everything but I'm not holding my breath on that."
Carroll spent 14 seasons as head coach of the Seahawks, leading the franchise to a 137-89-1 record, five NFC West titles, two NFC championships and a Super Bowl title in 2014.
The 72-year-old is also the winningest coach in franchise history.
However, the Seahawks missed the playoffs in two of the last three seasons, and team owner Jody Allen said in a statement that the decision to move on from Carroll was made "after thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise."
"It's been an honor and a thrill to be part of this program," Carroll added during a press conference. "I've loved every minute of it and you've watched me love it."
If Carroll did want to continue coaching, he'd likely have several suitors with six other head coaching vacancies around the NFL in the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers and Washington Commanders.
However, he hasn't been linked to any openings at this point, and the likes of Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh are among the hottest coaching candidates available this winter.
As for who the Seahawks are eyeing to replace Carroll, Quinn has been rumored as a candidate. Johnson, Harbaugh and former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel have also been mentioned as logical replacements.
