HINESVILLE, Ga. -- An Army chief warrant officer is being charged with murder after police say he drove hundreds of miles to his Georgia home and was involved in a fight.
According to a report from WSAV in Savannah, Ga., CWO 2 Jermaine Mealy killed another man, Nathaniel Brown, who was in his wife's home when he showed up.
But the full story may have started a day earlier.
Officials said that Mealy's wife called him on Friday after her home was burglarized. She told police that she had assured her husband that everything was okay and that police were investigating.
Still, police said Mealy drove over 900 miles from Texarkana, Texas where he was attending school to the Waverly Court address in Hinesville, Ga. where he arrived just before 1 p.m. on Saturday.
When he arrived, police said he found his wife with a friend, Brown, and at some point the two began fighting. During that altercation Mealy allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Brown several times.
Brown was transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Liberty County, Ga. where he was later pronounced dead.
Hinesville police are continuing to investigate the incident.
Mealy was stationed at Fort Polk, La. according to WSAV.
