While Usher's performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show was loaded with guest stars, one notable person who didn't perform was Justin Bieber.
Per Sara Nathan of Page Six, Bieber declined an invitation from his longtime friend and mentor because he "just wasn't feeling it."
Nathan noted there's "no bad blood" between Bieber and Usher. It was just a situation where Bieber "wasn't up for" doing it.
TMZ reported on Friday that Usher was talking directly to Bieber about potentially being part of the event. The two musicians have had a longstanding relationship that began when Usher started to mentor Bieber very early in his career.
Bieber's first major label deal was with RBMG Records, which was co-founded by Usher and Scooter Braun. The R&B superstar was featured on the remix of "Somebody to Love" from Bieber's debut album.
In June 2022, Bieber took a step back from performing after announcing he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. He had to cancel the remaining dates on the Justice World Tour that was scheduled to run through March 2023.
Despite not being part of the halftime show, Bieber was at the Super Bowl in Fanatics co-founder Michael Rubin's suite at Allegiant Stadium.
The event certainly wasn't lacking in star power even without Bieber. Alicia Keys, Lil Jon, Ludacris, Jermaine Dupri and will.i.am all made guest appearances alongside Usher.
