After helping the Pittsburgh Steelers make the playoffs last season, Mason Rudolph cashed in with a deal from the Tennessee Titans.

Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Rudolph has agreed to a one-year deal with the Titans worth up to $3.6 million.

Rudolph spent the first six years of his career with the Steelers after being selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft. The team put together a solid 8-4-1 record in his 13 starts.

While no one would suggest that Rudolph was elevating Pittsburgh's offense, he often played better than their other starting quarterbacks recently. He threw for 3,085 yards, 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 21 games.

After Kenny Pickett went down with a sprained ankle last season, Rudolph stepped in and had the best stretch of his career. The 28-year-old threw for 715 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions and completed 74.7 percent of his attempts in three starts.

The Steelers went 3-0 in those games to clinch the final playoff spot in the AFC. They made a change at quarterback in the offseason by signing Russell Wilson. They could have brought back Rudolph as their No. 2, but it would cost them almost $4.5 million in dead cap to part ways with Kenny Pickett.

Rudolph is best served being a backup, but his past success as the No. 1 guy gives the Titans confidence they can have success if he gets thrown into a starting role.

Given the cost of this deal, there's virtually no downside for the Titans. Last year proved how essential quarterback depth is when seven different starters suffered season-ending injuries by mid-December. There were 16 starters who missed at least one game by mid-December.

As long as the roster infrastructure and coaching staff around Rudolph are sound, he is more than capable of helping the Titanswin games next season if he gets thrust into starting duty.
