Report: WWE Signs Two New Female Stars | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

While the women’s wrestling product on Raw is mediocre at best right now, WWE continues to sign promising female talent, offering many fans a glimmer of hope that one day the company can have a Divas division on its flagship program that is actually worth watching.

Per reports from Squared Circle Sirens (via WrestlingInc), WWE has recently signed two new women from the independent scene: Jasmin Areebi and KC Cassidy.

According to Squared Circle Sirens, Canadian star Areebi had a tryout with the company last summer and was offered a contract soon after. The Australian Cassidy, who trained under WCW veteran Lance Storm, apparently agreed to a deal a few months ago but has had to wait for her visa issues to be sorted out first.

Both are expected to report to the company’s training center soon.

As noted, WWE's current Divas division certainly isn’t setting the world on fire on Raw. Nikki Bella’s big push isn’t working out, while AJ Lee and Paige no longer feel like the stars they once were.

And it’s hard to see anyone in the whole world caring about the upcoming Bella Twins vs. Lee and Paige tag team match at WrestleMania 31 in two weeks (frankly, no matter how hard the four women try, that one has “toilet break” written all over it).

Bizarrely, even someone like Summer Rae, who once displayed a fair amount of athleticism and in-ring skill, seems to have regressed as a performer. She's a dismal wrestler now. Well, that’s what years of two-minute matches and lazy, halfhearted booking will do to you.

However, thanks to women like Charlotte and Sasha Banks, women’s wrestling in developmental territory NXT is flourishing.

Due to its lengthy matches, decent promos and usually interesting storylines, NXT has a solid and technically sound female wrestling product more than comparable to the men’s. Cassidy and Areebi will surely be great fits for the roster.
