Ronald Lewis Clapp, affectionately known as Ron, was born on February 3, 1951 in Norfolk, VA to the late Doris Clapp Alston and Willie Steven Alston. Ronald grew up in the Tidewater Park area of Norfolk. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School on June 12, 1970. Upon graduating, Ronald enlisted in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. He proudly served his country for over 14 years. While serving in the military, he received a National Defense Service medal and a Parachutist and Sharpshooter M-16 badge. He later began his civilian career at the Norfolk Naval Supply Center, where he worked as a warehouse leader. He retired after 28 years of service. Ronald was a warrior; throughout his life he overcame many adversities, including his illnesses. He relied on his faith and trust in God through his challenges. He never complained and when asked how he was doing, Ron would always say, “I woke up this morning, I am blessed.” Ron enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, Sharon Alexander. They were inseparable and shared many sweet moments together. He also loved relaxing at home watching western movies, cooking, working in the yard, walking with his neighborhood buddies, and teaching his grandson life lessons. Ron also loved to talk; he never met a stranger and would carry on a conversation with anyone he met. Ronald leaves to cherish his memories, the love of his life, Sharon Alexander; a brother, Steve Alston; daughters, Kristina Clapp, Zakeia Alexander and Yolanda; sisters-in-law, Denise Alexander, Helena Alexander, Pamela Stephenson and Christine Alexander Primm; a brother-in-law, Arnett Alexander; grandson, Mason Alexander Clapp, and a host of other relatives and special friends. We thank God for his life and will carry on his legacy forever more.
