Personal Statement

Please allow me the opportunity to introduce myself to you and to indicate my interest in continuing both my academic and athletic career at a fine institution of higher learning. My name is Ryan Crane and I will be attending college in the fall of 2010. I am a 6'2" 190lb guard and I reside in Anthem, AZ. I have started on the Boulder Creek High School varsity team for 3 years, leading the team in scoring, 3 point shooting, field goal % and free throw % each year. I have been recently named 2nd Team All State Class 5A (largest schools), the 2010 Northwest Region Player of the Year and selected to the First Team All-Region team by the coaches in our region. This year our team won the Class 5A2 state championship and finished the year at 28-2. I have received numerous all-star team selections and MVP awards while at BCHS and through my AAU team participation, won the Northwest Region and State Championship 3 point Shootout Championships, have been named to the top 100 players in the state by Arizona Varsity, was selected to the Horizon Invitational All Tournament Team and was named MVP in the Great Desert Shootout tournament this season. I also led our region in scoring, field goal accuracy and 3 point shooting and was ranked in the top in Class 5A and in the entire state in those categories (also top 15 in nation in 3 point shooting totals). I have a 3.5 GPA, a 1440 SAT score and scored in the top 25% in the ACT.

During my senior season at Boulder Creek I have built on the success I had during my sophomore and junior years on the varsity team, where I was a starter and key contributor. I was selected as team captain by our coach and my teammates for the 09-10 season. I consider myself to be an excellent student athlete and am serious about my future. I am also a heads-up team player and a hard worker willing to do the little things it takes to win. I lead by example and believe I have the skills and intangibles required to contribute to any collegiate institution and team. I have been heavily involved with basketball on an annual basis since the age of five and am confident in my abilities, dedication, work ethic and commitment to mesh in a team environment at the next level. It is my desire to play at the collegiate level after I graduate in 2010.

I am looking for an institution where I can find the right balance between the classroom and the court. I would like to pursue a university with an outstanding academic reputation and am interested in several fields of study at this time. Ideally, my athletic environment would be one where I could make an impact on the team and grow as a player and contributor to the teams success. I am open to every level as my decision will be based upon the educational environment and the athletic opportunities that are available to me.
