Wilkes-Barre Autism Recreational Swim Program

On Saturdays-11:00am to 12:00noon

John Heinz (Mundy St. in Wilkes Barre) Aquatic Pool

This program is offered to children with autism who can benefit from recreating in an aquatic environment. This is an open session in which participants, with support and assistance from parents/guardians/designees, will self-direct their time and activities. Session will be 1 hour in duration. A parent, guardian, or other person designated by the parent/guardian must accompany the child into the pool and remain with the child throughout the duration of the session. Equipment will be available for use including rafts, noodles, float rings, float belts, a basketball hoop, balls, and other toys.

Children must meet the following criteria for eligibility into the program:

1) continent of bowel and bladder

2) seizure freeor controlled seizure activity

3) medically stable

4) no open wounds or incisions

5) ability to tolerate aquatic environment

6) presence of parent/guardian/other designee in the pool

A certified Lifeguard will be present to supervise all sessions.

A John Heinz Autism Swim Program Participant Release must be completed and signed. The form may be completed at the swim program on Saturday, or one can be downloaded from the S.A.F.E., Inc. website (-ProgramsWeekly Swim Program/Wilkes-Barre).

Saturdays--11 am to 12 pm

S.A.F.E., Inc. is a 501c3 not-for--profit organization supporting families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We provide families and members with support and information pertaining to the latest techniques, therapies, and available programs. We also provide opportunities for those living with ASD to overcome social barriers, enjoying activities outside their homes. Our goal is to help people with autism live full and independent lives.
