Personal Statement
I’ve played lots of different sports but I’ve developed a love of softball above the others. The friendships I developed in rec league kept me coming back. Then, as my skills developed and I transitioned to a select team, I was driven by the need to improve and compete at a higher level. I have learned that I am capable of more by working hard to get better.
The team is my second family. We get each other through the challenges of the game and celebrate our successes. As a pitcher, I have acquired the skill to identify challenges as an opportunity for improvement. My focus so far has been on movement and accuracy in my delivery and I am transitioning to incorporate more power and speed by using weighted balls, and arm speed and leg drills.
Outside of softball, I enjoy activities that allow me to use my creativity, imagination, and give back to the community. Last year, I was one of the few people in my grade chosen to be in a tech arts class that was known as Tech Arts Enterprises, or T.A.E. In this class, I utilized computer aided design (CAD) programs to design products such as cribbage boards, coasters, water bottles, coaster holders, towels, ornaments, earrings, picture frames, and signs. I then brought these designs to life using machinery such as 3D printers, sublimation machines, CNC Router, industrial table and band saw, and laser engraver. I then marketed the products and sold them to the public to raise money for the school. It was because of that class that I decided I want to be an Engineer. I also had the opportunity to volunteer picking up trash at a community park, packaging meals at the food bank, and helping coach a 10U fastpitch team. During 9th grade this year, I look forward to starting school softball and volleyball, along with being in a Textile design class, where I get to design and create my own clothing while learning about the history of fashion.
It is important for me to find the right fit for a college that will allow me the opportunity to achieve my academic and athletic goals. In the long term, I am interested in being an engineering major.
