Samuel Leroy Jackson was born on December 21, 1948, in Washington, D.C., to Elizabeth Harriett and Roy Henry Jackson. 

He was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His father lives far away from his family in Kansas City, Missouri. He died due to excessive drinking of alcohol.

Jackson only met him twice in his life. He was raised by his mother, a factory worker who eventually became a mental facility supplies buyer, his maternal grandparents, Edgar and Pearl Montgomery, and extended family.
