Shirley Caesar is an American gospel music singer-songwriter from Durham, North Carolina. She began singing gospel music as a child and recorded her first tracks at age eleven. After performing with the popular gospel group The Caravans for eight years, she pursued a solo career. Caesar graduated from Shaw University with a degree in Business Administration and attended the Divinity School at Duke University.
