1000-lb Sisters’ Tammy Slaton “fought death” at least eight times while trying to lose weight, she has revealed. The star has taken to TikTok to congratulate herself for getting through one of the toughest times of her life. Fans are just as proud of the reality TV star, who shed more than 400lbs.
When 1000-lb Sisters first introduced siblings Tammy and Amy Slaton, they were both struggling with their diet and lifestyle, often drinking around eight to 12 cans of soda a day. But enough was enough for Tammy Slaton after she faced close encounters with death. Tammy calls herself a “true survivor” on TikTok.
Tammy Slaton has ‘fought death’ multiple times during weight loss journey
Tammy Slaton “fought death” at least eight times, she revealed on TikTok. She was filmed for 1000-lb Sisters during some of these difficult moments, including when she woke up on life support.
Her weight loss doctor, Dr. Eric Smith, warned her she was at risk of death more than once. Her biggest death scare was when she stopped breathing and was put in an induced coma.
Chris Combs, from the show, told cameras in 2022: “If she doesn’t get the [weight loss] surgery she’s going to die because of her weight.”
In another near-death sccene, Tammy Slaton needed a tracheostomy to help her breathe.
1000-lb Sisters star was on life support
Tammy woke up on life support after eight days in a coma, and revealed she has been through a similar incident in hospital two other times. She didn’t remember anything from the day after she was rushed to hospital.
At the time, when she weighed her heaviest at 717lb (325kg), she had apparatus attached to her nose to help her breathe. Tammy also told doctors she “didn’t feel good.”
When asked by the producer whether she knew her family was there, Tammy said she heard voices and remembers someone holding her hand. The first text she sent after waking up was to her siblings.
Since then, Tammy went back to rehabilitation for two months before filming started, which is where she lost enough weight to qualify for weight loss surgery, and change her life for the better.
Tammy calls herself a ‘true survivor’
Tammy Slaton hails herself as a “true survivor” for her brushes with death on TikTok. Alongside life support, she went through covid-19, a clot on her lung, and weight loss surgery.
One fan commented, “Tammy, you are a warrior. So happy for you. Keep up the good work!” Another penned: “We’re so happy you made it through!🥰”
