Personal Statement
My name is Tanner Finnerty and I am currently in the 8th grade at SouthLake Christian Academy (Class of 2027). I play Linebacker and Running Back. My 8th grade football season just ended and I am currently playing for FBU Carolina. I also wrestle on the varsity team and hope to win the NC state championship this season.
My parents have played a big impact on my life and really encouraged me to be focused on sports and academics. I currently have all As and Bs in school and my goal is to finish this year with straight As. I look up to Luke Kuechly as a role model in sports. Not only was he a phenomenal athlete, he was a leader and lead his players by example. I hope to learn from his play and leadership as I develop as a student athlete.
I became interested in sports at an early age. I have been wrestling since I was 6 years old and started playing football when I was 8. My parents have encouraged me to develop as a student athlete and have given me insight and the opportunity to develop as a player.
Through sports, I have learned confidence and humility. I am confident in my abilities but also realize that it is important to remain humble. I recently took the Ryzer TAP test and ranked #1 in the nation in all classes in Confidence and #5 in the nation in Mental Toughness.
My academic goals are to earn straight As throughout middle and high school. I love to travel and learn from different experiences. I want to learn and take advantage of as many opportunities as I can in order to develop and grow as a student athlete. In college, I want to study Sport Management. I would love to be a sports agent when I graduate college. I plan to get my MBA and start my own sports agency. Understanding the game of football, the management of sports, and getting the best education I can is very important to me.
To achieve my goals, I understand that I have to be focused and have a plan. I have a plan and I understand that I have to train and study as hard as possible in order to achieve my goals. I have a personal trainer that I train with several times per week. He helps me in understanding that you not only have to be physical, but you have to be mentally tough and a good teammate. Football is a team sport and being part of something bigger than myself is important to me.
- Very Respectfully,
Tanner Finnerty, Class of 2027
