Personal Statement
Undaunted, I walked away from being a cheerleader and onto the boy's wrestling team for my school as a Sophomore because my desire to compete physically in a head to head setting wasn't being fulfilled and I felt empty. Stepping into a varsity position my first year EVER wrestling and the challenge of being a girl competing against mostly boys brought a lot of pressure and attention but also fostered acceptance, understanding, opportunities to serve as a mentor and, in a way, a role model. Taking the discipline, technique, confidence and competitiveness I learned competing in martial arts in my youth, I felt naturally comfortable competing on the mat as a wrestler. Admittedly, I didn't think wrestling would take me where it has but my success has opened my eyes to the possibility of continuing my wrestling journey at the collegiate level.
