The Bachelor’s Joey Graziadei had fans worried over his yellow eyes recently. He’s now finally come clean to viewers about the rare, mysterious syndrome that affects his appearance.
Joey is pretty busy trying to find his perfect match on The Bachelor, but there’s one thing that caught everyone off guard. He revealed he was sick for over a week during high school before a shock diagnosis.
Bachelor star Joey has yellow eyes
During the recent episode of ABC‘s The Bachelor, Joey appeared to have yellow in the whites of his eyes. But don’t worry, he has allowed fans to relax by saying he is “healthy” and knows why they are yellow.
Joey’s reasoning for yellow eyes is having Gilbert’s Syndrome, a genetic hereditary disorder where slightly higher than normal levels of bilirubin build up in the blood, causing jaundice.
After viewers showed concern, he took to Instagram to wish fans a “beautiful day” and tell them the story of how he got his diagnosis. As a result, Joey was hailed an “unproblematic king”.
Joey was diagnosed in high school
Joey got sick in high school for a week and a half, before going to the doctors for help. He had blood work done, which revealed his bilirubin count was very high, signifying a liver problem.
“So we went and I got a liver ultrasound, I went to other doctors. They found out there was nothing necessarily wrong like hepatitis but they diagnosed me with Gilbert’s Syndrome,” Joey exclaimed.
He continued, “At the end of the day, I am told that I am healthy. It’s something that does affect the whites of my eyes, it makes it have those jaundice levels which is why it looks a little yellow.”

He plans to ‘pay more attention’ to eyes
Joey “wants to pay more attention” to his eyes this year, saying he “wants to get his health right and make sure he’s all good.” He is required to drink more fluids, adding that it’s worse when he’s not slept.
Stress is another factor that affects the whites of his eyes, “which happens on a TV show”. Joey also made sure to add, “I do appreciate everyone looking out for me and wondering if I’m okay.”
He finalised his reveal, which started by him wishing fans to have a “beautiful day,” with: “But to my knowledge, I am okay as I can be and I will continue to look at it, so thank you very much.”
