Six years passed by, and Tom Brown’s missing case remains unsolved.

The sudden disappearance of a high school senior in Canadian, Texas, sparked a high-profile investigation that caused tension between the family and the local sheriff’s department.

The case of Tom Brown, a young student with a bright future ahead of him, was the subject of Investigation Discovery’s “Murder Under the Friday Night Lights: Where is Tom Brown?”

The show explores the lack of answers surrounding his death and the ensuing investigation. Let’s uncover the details of this unfortunate event.

The death of Tom Brown

Thomas Brown was a beloved senior at Canadian High School in Texas. Known for his cheerful personality and love for football and theater, the 18-year-old was a known member of his community.

He loved playing football and exploring theatres. According to some sources, he was a light-hearted and funny personality.

On the eve of Thanksgiving in 2016, Tom and his family were excited to spend time together when the tragedy struck.

On November 23, 2016, around 6.00 p.m., Tom went out to meet some friends and never returned home. Despite attempts to reach him through calls and texts, Tom’s family grew increasingly worried as the night went on.

At 2:15 AM, Tom’s mother, Penny Meek, called the sheriff’s department to report his disappearance.

The following day, on November 24, Tom’s car was found near the local water treatment plant with a smear of blood on the driver’s side door and a 25-caliber shell casing on the floorboard, but Tom himself was nowhere to be found.

Although his backpack and cell phone were later recovered, it wasn’t until January 2019 that Tom’s remains were found near Lake Marvin, Texas, approximately 19 miles from Canadian. The remains were identified through forensic testing.

Despite the discovery of Tom’s remains, many questions surrounding his death remain unanswered.

Was it a murder? Or a suicide?

The sudden disappearance of Canadian High School senior Tom Brown on November 23, 2016, raised many questions.

Surveillance footage showed Tom’s car driving near the water treatment plant in the early hours of the morning, but it was unclear if anyone got out.

Despite extensive searches and investigations by authorities and the family, no solid answers have been found about what happened to Tom.

Penny, Tom’s mother, told the police that she believed Tom might have taken his own life, but she also noted that he didn’t seem depressed when he disappeared.

The .25-caliber shell casing found in the car and the blunt force trauma on the skull of Tom’s remains couldn’t provide an apparent cause of death.

The Texas Attorney General suspended the investigation in August 2019 due to a lack of evidence of foul play. Still, the Cold Case Unit announced in October 2021 that they would look into the case again.

The family’s private investigator believed that Tom may have died in an accidental shooting by children playing.

The mystery of Tom Brown’s death remains unsolved.
