Tony's Appliance Repair, the family company, was sold to afford Matt's living in North Carolina. Sandy stated they spent more than $100,000 on Matt’s quest.

Since his parents, Tony and Sandy, first purchased him a go-kart, the track has served as his testing ground.

DiBenedetto had previously conquered all karting classes in the Chico region and even found himself in the driver's seat of a legends car race in Carson City.
