Nakamura and Styles approached each other warily as the crowd chanted their names.

The champ had Nakamura on the defensive thanks to a varied attack. Styles took the fight out of the ring, but The King of Strong Style took control by delivering thunderous strikes.

The action moved into the stands where Nakamura continued his assault.

Styles later charged back despite his fatigue. Nakamura responded by bringing tables into the mix. The challenger cracked his knee against an exposed turnbuckle, giving Styles a weak spot to focus on.

After a long time spent in the Calf Crusher, Nakamura barely made it to his feet to beat the referee's 10-count.

Chair shots, low blows and a Styles Clash weren't enough to end it all. It took a Phenomenal Forearm from the heavens to decide a winner.

Styles wins via 10-count to retain the WWE Championship.

Memorable Moments and Quotes

The pace was measured for much of the bout and the violence was tame compared to other Last Man Standing matches. Still, this was a dramatic, emphatic title bout with a string of memorable spots.

Nakamura's facial expressions helped make this a world-class drama, his emotions deepening in the big moments.

Styles and Nakamura still haven't matched their Wrestle Kingdom contest, but they delivered a strong climax to their rivalry here. Both The Phenomenal One and Nakamura looked like warriors. Styles having to dig down and lean on his dark side to win elevated what felt like an early main event.

Styles can now move on to challenges from Samoa Joe, The Miz and, hopefully, Bryan.
