TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Corruptors Pursuing Team (TPK)—a joint team from the Attorney General’s Office, the Justice and Human Rights Department and the police—has stated it will soon start tracking down Eddy Tansil. This measure will be carried out because this fugitive embezzler—he embezzled Rp1.3 trillion in from Bapindo Bank 1993, and this amount is now equivalent to around Rp5.5 trillion--in fact transferred some money to Indonesia last year.Muchtar Arifin, the TPK Chairman, said they will pursue him by finding out the party who received the money. “First, we’ll coordinate immediately with the Financial Transaction Analysis and Reporting Center (PPATK),” he said yesterday (28/10).The report that Eddy Tansil sent money twice to Indonesia was revealed by PPATK based on an Australian transaction analysis institution’s report. I Ketut Sudiharsa, PPATK’s Legal Director, speaking in Bogor on Saturday (27/10), said, “We’re surprised to hear the report (from Australia) as these transactions avoided our monitoring.”Sudiharsa explained the fund movements of Golden Key Group’s owner were very quick so they were difficult to trace. PPATK could not block the money transfers either as it does not have this authority.Humprey R. Djemat, who joined Tansil’s legal advisor team in the past, was doubtful that his former client transferred the money. “Is it true that it’s Eddy Tansil? Does he still use the name?” he asked Tempo yesterday. The case of Eddy Tansil and Bapindo was one of Indonesia’s main concerns during Suharto’s regime. At that time, the Golden Key Group, led by Eddy Tansil, obtained Rp1.3 trillion credit from Bapindo, a bank which is now merged within Mandiri Bank.In his application, Tansil stated the money was to be used for building a petrochemical factory but the factory in fact has never been built. The attorney stated some of the Bapindo money was used by his family to buy plots of land, houses and private cars. The court sentenced Tansil to 20 years imprisonment but in 1996, Tansil escaped from Cipinang penitentiary.EKO NOPIANSYAH | SANDY INDRA PRATAMA | AGUS SUPRIYANTO
